Full Moon Tribal Belly Dance Co. was founded in the fall of 1999 by instructor and director Chelle Naef of Syracuse, New York. Full Moon Tribal has developed into its own style which is a combination of American Tribal Style and Oriental style belly dance. Some of the dance numbers contain solo, duo or group choreography with strong accents that compliment the musical changes. Other dance numbers rely strictly on improvisational techniques for group dance. The costuming varies from the standard ethnic looking Tribal fare to the more folkloric stylings of the Ghawazee to Gypsy styling to Oriental influenced costume.
FMT has had many troupe performances since its arrival into the dance scene. A few of the venues include: Belly Fest; Westcott Cultural Festival; NYS Fair; Harvest Moon Jamboree; Mother Earth Festival; Syracuse and Plowshares Arts and Crafts Festivals; King David's Restaurant. Full Moon Tribal currently offers performance opportunities for students in various fair, festival and show settings.
Chelle is an eternal student of belly dance since late 1995 and has studied numerous styles and prop dances including: American Tribal Style; Oriental (Raks Sharki); Folkloric Egyptian and Turkish; Tunisian; Veil and Sword. She continues her training on a regular basis through research, intensive workshops and private instruction. She represented SABA (Syracuse Area Bellydance Association) as Vice-President 2001-2002 and President 2005.
She began teaching in the spring of 1999 and currently instructs beginner and intermediate students. As well as regular weekly and private classes she has taught several advanced level workshops. She is the founder and producer of the annual Belly Fest and has been featured in several local news publications and a video production.
Chelle adopted the mission statement of "Inspire to dance. Dance to inspire.". She follows the philosophy of using the head, the heart and the hips to maintain high standards, create harmony and beauty and extend the energy to help make the world a better place. |
